water leak

At O’Shea Plumbing we have been diagnosing and resolving client plumbing issues for over 45 years. Often the Plumber will advise clients on tricks to maintain their plumbing, giving it the best chance of lasting a long time.

Identifying faulty plumbing before it becomes a major issue can save you from potential water damage and costly repairs. Here are some common signs to look out for:

  1. Leaks: Check for any visible water main leaks under sinks, around toilets, or near water-using appliances like dishwashers and washing machines. Leaks can also manifest as water stains on walls or ceilings aswell as timbers swelling eg. skirting boards, doors or cabinetry.
  2. Low Water Pressure: If water pressure seems weaker than usual, it could indicate a blockage or a leak somewhere in the plumbing system.
  3. Strange Sounds: Gurgling or bubbling noises when using sinks, showers, or toilets might indicate a problem with drain pipes.
  4. Slow Draining: If sinks, showers, or tubs drain slowly, it could signal a blocked drain repair is required.
  5. Water Discoloration: Brown or rusty water coming from taps can indicate corrosion in the water supply pipes (often if Galvanised iron is present).
  6. Foul Odours: Persistent unpleasant smells, especially near drains, could indicate sewage backup or other plumbing issues.
  7. Mould or Mildew: Excessive moisture from leaks can lead to the growth of mould or mildew in walls, ceilings, or around fixtures.
  8. High Water Bills: A sudden increase in water usage without a corresponding change in habits could indicate a hidden leak.
  9. Visible Corrosion or Rust: Check pipes, connectors, and fixtures for signs of rust or corrosion, which can weaken the plumbing system over time (including all flexible hoses).
  10. Water Meter Check: Turn off all water sources in your home and monitor the water meter. There may be a hidden leak if it continues to register water usage.

If you notice any of these signs, it’s essential to address the issue promptly to prevent further damage, these types of problems do not fix themselves.
