Sewer Blockage Hawthorn

O’Shea Plumbing assists the Clarkes with a water leak on their Canterbury property

The Clarke family have lived in Canterbury for many years and have relied on O’Shea Plumbing on many occasions ranging from sewer blockages, installing new fixtures as well as renewing horribly blocked stormwater drains to name a few.

On this occasion, Mrs Clarke rang O’Shea Plumbing concerned about a tremendously large volume of water pouring into her front yard from under the house. Cleverly Mrs Clarke turned off the water meter which eased the flow, suggesting the water leak was located under their house.

Andrew (O’Shea employee) arrived the same day and poked his head under the house only to find that there was a puddle about 500mm deep the whole way along the front of the building (ground slopes from back to front). Andrew decided that the only way to find this water leak was to get wet.

Andrew turned on the water meter to allow the leak to present itself. By the time Andrew got under the house, he saw a torrent of water screaming down from the back of the property. Andrew swam up this stream and could hear water screaming from somewhere under the deck.

Andrew came back from under the house and went to look through the cracks of the back deck, he found a service cupboard that hid the pipes and valves required for the Clarke’s irrigation. Andrew opened the service cupboard and found that the leak was occurring under the deck through the irrigation pressure pipe. Andrew turned the ball type valve which isolated the water supply to irrigation and in turn stopped the leak.

Options were given to the Clarke’s to rectify this which were approved, and work would start once the water dissipated. Andrew came back with another plumber – Nathaniel – to show what was required to complete works only to find that the issue was not as serious as he initially thought. Nathaniel proceeded to fix the issue whilst Andrew adjusted the quote to suit the job (amount decreased due to less work required).

The works were completed and the client was able to continue using the irrigation system and the Clarke’s were once again saved by O’Shea Plumbing. Nice work team!
